Hum 2243 Native Peoples of North America

Museum Visit Guidelines and Questions

Due Date:   The completed answer sheet must be submitted at the beginning of the last class meeting of Week 10

For this assignment, you will visit an area museum that has Native American exhibits. A sign-up sheet with museum choices will be provided in class. Select a museum to visit from the signup sheet in class or have your own selection approved by the instructor BEFORE you make any visits. Visits that were not approved beforehand will receive a zero. A maximum of three people may visit the same museum. Not everyone will be able to visit his/her favorite museum (or the closest one, for that matter). To make sure that you can visit your favorite museum, please make your choice early and have an alternative ready. Students who sign up at the last minute have no right to complain if their #1 choice is already taken.

if the museum has several exhibits, please focus on the American Indian exhibits in your answers.

During your visit, please answer the questions below and write your answers in the blank spaces under each question. You must bring back brochures for the entire class and also attach one brochure to your answer sheet. If the museum has a website, please provide it so that it may be made available on our Blackboard site.

1.      Where is the museum located (city, street address)?

2.     How does one get there (give direction from the OSU-Okmulgee campus)?

      What are the opening hours?

4.     How much does admission cost?

5.     What is the museum website?

6.     What kind of building is the museum in (size, number of rooms or galleries, number of floors, type of building)?

      How was the museum started?

      Who runs the museum?

9.     What types of exhibits does the museum have? Are they permanent or changing?

10.  Which exhibit did you see? Tell us about the items on display and how they were arranged.

11.  Which item did you find most impressive? Describe the item and explain why.

12.  What did you learn from visiting this museum?
