Spch 1113 Introduction to Speech Communication

Informative Speech

For your second speech, you will be required to be knowledgeable enough about a subject to inform or teach your audience about it. You must choose a topic that is of interest and value to your audience.

Some research will be needed to become expert enough to tell your audience about your topic. Keep in mind your audience, their knowledge, and their interests. Remember: Knowing your audience well is one of the keys to speaking successfully. Your audience is a group of people who are not experts on what you will be discussing in your speech.

Length: 6-8 minutes (you will lose 1 point [of 100] for every 15 seconds that your speech is short). You will be asked to stop if you exceed 8 minutes. There will be a 2-minute warning for you to end on time.
Requirements: --outline (typed copy to me prior to speaking)
note cards (give to me after speech)
Purpose: to inform and/or teach your audience about a topic of interest to them and to provide a worthwhile experience
Value: 175 points
