Engl 1033 Technical Writing I Technical Description Memo

Situation:

Assume that you are employed as a technical supervisor and are acting as a resource person in your particular area to a new manager not familiar with your specialty.

The new manager has asked for suggestions on which parts the warehouse should stock. Write a memo to convince the manager to purchase a certain part. Choose a simple part from your area of study. Define the part and describe it in detail. In addition, discuss why it would be a good idea to have this part in stock at all times.

Task:

Write a memo to Bud Light, the new general manager. Your memo must contain these parts (use as many paragraphs as needed):

  1. An introduction that tells Mr. Light why you are writing this memo and what you are writing about. This includes a definition of the part and a list of its major components.

  1. A discussion that describes the overall part and each of its components in detail (size, weight, color, material, shape, etc.). In plain English, tell your reader what the part looks like. Include an image of the entire part and, if necessary, images of its major components.

  1. A conclusion that justifies stocking the part and gives a reason why it is urgent to have a supply of parts at hand by a certain date.

Due Date: TBA
