What did I learn in this class?
- "I've learned that it is not as hard to write as I [had] previously thought it was.
I've learned to like writing now."
- "I'm glad I took this class. It has made me a better writer and a much better
communicator to different types of people. ... No matter what it is I want to do better
in, I know that if I try, I can [do] better."
- "I used to hate writing; now I don't mind it so much. This semester has caught my
interest. I've learned more [about essays] this semester than in all four years of high
school."
- "The lessons I learned made writing a little easier and more interesting for me and the
reader. I have enjoyed this class immensely."
- "Now I see the importance of writing and how useful it is to be able to write well."
- "I improved as a writer in the way of expressing my thoughts. ... Anything I have to say
can be expressed in an exciting and interesting way to my audience."
- "I am having an easier time conveying my message now. I used to have a fear of essays,
[but] I do not dread them as much [now]."
- "I learned a lot of things I [was never taught] in high school. I know now that being a
writer is putting some effort into what you write and to make it worthwhile."
- "In writing only three essays, I've learned a lot about how to put my thoughts down on
paper."
- "This class has helped me write and talk about things that I could not [talk about]
before."
- "I realized that I had [the] potential to reach other people with my words and examples.
I've become a better communicator on paper."
- "I have much more confidence now in my ability to communicate effectively when
writing."
- "Now I know basically what people expect of my writing, and if the need should arise,
I can better fill their expectations."
What would I do differently if I could take this class over?
- "If you are not serious about this class, you will find yourself in a big bind in a hurry.
You must keep up with your work and never get behind, or you will stay that way all
semester."
- "Instead of looking at writing as something scary and dreadful, [I would look at it as]
something I could really enjoy."
- "I would change my outlook on writing altogether. I would look at it more as a way of
expressing myself in a way [that] other people [will] understand and enjoy. Before, ...
writing was more of a chore, and I would only write when I had to."
- "I would change my outlook on writing because it is very important, and [the way you
communicate and write] will determine your success."
- "I would come more open-minded and willing to try harder."
- "I would have come to the first day with a different attitude. I would have viewed the
class as a learning experience instead of something I had to do."
- "I would make sure that I [had] a positive attitude. I would not come to class saying that
I am not a good writer."
- "I would have entered the class with more of an open mind and a more positive attitude
than I did."
- "I came into this course with the impression that it was going to be very hard for me.
By having that kind of attitude, [I] made the first few weeks of this semester more
difficult than [they] were meant to be."
- "If I changed anything, it would be my attitude toward English classes."
- "I would come to class more and be better prepared for my assignments. My essays
showed when I didn't do anything."
- "I would have paid more attention in class, and I would have spent a lot more time
on all the work I did for this class."
- "The only thing I would do differently is take this class seriously in the beginning instead
of waiting halfway through."
- "I would take it more seriously and spend more time on it. I usually would hurry through
it...; therefore, I believe my writing is not as good as it could have been."
- "I seem to have a difficult time writing an essay ... because I would put it off until the
night before it was due."
- "It would be to take it more seriously, to show up for class on time, and to turn my
assignments in on time."
- "I would have definitely come to class more often."
- "The main thing I would do would be to take my time writing my essays."
- "I should have spent more time working on my assignments."
- "I gave this course [neither] the study time nor the attention I should have."
- "I would have been more enthusiastic about coming to class. I would also be more
prepared when I c[o]me to class."
- "I would make myself come to class more."
