Due Date: Throughout the semester as appropriate. For this assignment, you will present a short (3-4 minutes) profile of a contemporary or historical American Indian personality whose name appears in our textbook or our readings and who is relevant to our discussion and our learning. The profile will essentially be a summary of one of the short biographies that can be found in each chapter of our textbook or of material found elsewhere. However, you are expected to research and present information that goes beyond the information from the textbook. If you wish to present a person not in our textbook or on our list, contact me first to have your choice approved. Such choices must be approved beforehand to receive credit. Presentations must be written in your own words, i.e. text that is copied from our textbook or a website is not acceptable. I want to see that you have actually learned something about your famous person and can convey that information to the class. Therefore, you will not be allowed to have your textbook open during your presentation. This is not a public reading. All presenters are encouraged to bring additional materials such as photographs, prints, or books, or PPT slides to enhance audience learning. Below is a list of personalities to choose from. The earlier you choose, the more likely it is that your choice will still be available. The number in parentheses is the week in which the presentation has to be given. A sign-up sheet with this information will be distributed in class.
