Explain the cause-and-effect relationship between two elements by answering one of the following two questions:

Why did/does something happen? (examining the causes)
What are the results of a particular situation or action? (examining the effects)

Draw on your own experiences and knowledge to develop this essay. Remember to provide a clear focus and a reasonable thesis statement.

Please submit a complete outline first. Write your final draft only after you have had feedback on your outline. Completing an outline is part of your overall essay grade.

Please submit multiple copies of the rough draft: one for you, one for me, and one for each member of your group. Submit only one copy of the final draft to me.

All essays must be typed (double-spaced) on standard, letter-size paper.

Please follow the formatting guidelines as shown on p. 776 in McWhorter (you learned this in Comp I).

Essays will be graded on the 1-2-3 scale. For information on grading criteria, please refer to the course syllabus or talk to me during my office hour.

Late work will be handled according to the rules in the syllabus. Remember that you may hand in only one late essay.

The following are unacceptable and will result in a rejection of the essay and a grade of zero (0):

Pages torn from a notebook.
Pages which are stained, folded, torn, crumpled, or otherwise damaged.
Paper sizes other than letter size.
Handwritten assignments.
