Are counseling services available to students?

OSU-Okmulgee's Counseling and Access Services maintains qualified staff trained to assist with individual, family or group counseling issues and crisis intervention. Typical issues addressed include stress management, relationships, depression, alcohol/drug use, sexual assault and domestic violence. Referrals to local agencies are given as needed. A comprehensive list of community resources and support groups is maintained in this office. Mental health literature is available on a variety of topics. Individual privacy will be maintained in any counseling process. For a partial list of substance abuse "hotline" numbers, contact Counseling and Access Services. The Oklahoma Vocational Rehabilitative Services also has counseling staff on campus to assist students with disabilities. They are located in the Workforce Oklahoma building.

Are students permitted to use campus services?

All students are encouraged to use any of the specialized services offered on campus. These services include automotive bodywork, watch and jewelry repair, shoe repair and baked foods store.

Where is the campus infirmary and is there any charge for its use?

The Infirmary is located in the Student Union. A qualified physician visits the campus Monday through Friday when classes are in session. Students enrolled in at least 6 hours may see the doctor without charge, but must pay for any prescriptions. Student's spouse and minor children may also use the Infirmary.

Do I need a parking permit for my car? If so, where do I get one?

Each student and employee vehicle that is parked on campus is required to display a valid parking decal. These decals may be obtained at the Bursar's Office. Decals are valid from September to August. The first decal is issued at no charge. Replacement decals are $15.

What is the purpose of the Student Identification Card?

The Student Identification (ID) Card, which is issued during enrollment, is carried for identification and is REQUIRED when cashing checks and using services offered by the college. The first ID card is issued at no charge. Replacement ID cards are $15 each.

Do I have to take the General Studies courses to get a technical degree?

Yes. To earn an AAS degree you must have earned the hours required by the program of study you are enrolled in. Each program of study at OSU-Okmulgee requires General Studies courses. If you have taken courses at another institution and have a transcript, they may be transferable.

What type of salaries do graduates earn?

Technical skills are highly desirable in today's marketplace. Expected earnings vary greatly with the different program options offered at OSU-Okmulgee, the work experience of the individual, and the geographic location chosen after graduation. Representatives in each division can tell you what recent graduates of their programs earn on average.

What are the admissions requirements?

Are there any special requirements?

For a specific program of study there may be additional requirements. Some of these include interviews, placement with specific industry partners, essays, and minimum grade point averages/ACT scores. Ask specifically with any program of study you consider.

Do I have to live on campus?

Students who are under 21, not married and not designated as a commuter student (living within a 50 mile radius) are expected to live on campus for the first two semesters.

Do I have to purchase equipment or tools?

This is variable by program of study. Most required tools and equipment can be purchased through the campus much like textbooks; in general, costs are spread out over more than one semester.

Why are AAS degree programs at OSU-Okmulgee more credit hours than the programs elsewhere?

The AAS degree is a lab-intensive degree and the institution emphasizes hands-on experience in all programs. In advisory sessions with industry, the institution has also found that employers today are requiring more and more soft skills. These include areas such as, communication, understanding diversity, personal effectiveness, time management, general knowledge, ethics and business practices. In addition, science and math skills are increasingly necessary in carrying out technical tasks and duties. The comprehensive nature of the programs does make OSU-Okmulgee graduates highly desirable.

Will my course work from other colleges transfer? Can I transfer credits from OSU-Okmulgee to other institutions?

Yes. All course work is transferable. Whether incoming or outgoing, transcripts must be evaluated by the receiving institution. It is up to the receiving institution to decide how the transferred hours will apply to a degree.

What if I'm not sure about a career choice?

There is a career counselor on campus and career profiling is available through the Assessment Center; many students take courses that allow them to explore interests in more than one field.

Can I get a Bachelor's degree at OSU-Okmulgee?
