Admission Requirements

Not applicable to international students. International students should contact the Office of International Affairs for information; email international.office@okstate.edu, or telephone United States number 918-293-5160.

The admission policies of OSU-Okmulgee are those approved by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education on Admission to and Transfer among Oklahoma Colleges and Universities of the State System. Students will be admitted in one of the following status:

1. First Time College Students
A. High School Graduates:

Graduates from accredited high schools are eligible for admission provided they:

  • submit an Application for Admission
  • participate in the American College Testing Program (ACT); The College Board SAT is acceptable
  • submit an official eight-semester high school transcript
  • participate in COMPASS assessment, as required, as explained under Academic Profiling

The following high school curricular requirements have been established for students seeking admission to Oklahoma colleges and universities:

  • 4 English (Grammar, Composition, Literature)
  • 2 Lab Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics or any lab science certified by the school district; General Science with or without a lab may not be used to meet this requirement.)
  • 3 Mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Math Analysis, Calculus, Advanced Placement Statistics)
  • 3 History and Citizenship skills (including 1 unit of American History and 2 additional units from subjects of History, Economics, Geography, Government, Non-Western Culture)
  • 3 Additional units of subjects listed above or selected from the following: Computer Science, Foreign Language)
B. Non-High School Graduates:

Individuals 18 years of age or older who are not high school graduates are eligible for admission provided:

  • their high school class has graduated
  • they submit an Application for Admission
  • they submit official transcripts of previous academic history including a GED if taken
  • they participate in the American College Testing Program (ACT) or the College Board SAT
  • participate in COMPASS as explained under Academic Profiling
2. College Transfer Students

A transfer student is an undergraduate with greater than six attempted credit hours, excluding developmental (0-level) courses and credit hours accumulated by concurrently enrolled students. Individuals who have enrolled in one or more colleges prior to enrollment at OSU-Okmulgee must provide the following documentation depending upon the number of hours completed at previous colleges:

A. Students with fewer than 24 credits:

Transfer students are eligible for admission provided they:

  • submit an Application for Admission
  • participate in the American College Testing Program (ACT) or the College Board SAT
  • submit an official high school transcript
  • submit official college transcripts from each college attended
  • participate in COMPASS as explained under Academic Profiling
B. Students with 24 or more credits:

Transfer Students are eligible for admission provided they:

  • submit an Application for Admission
  • submit official college transcripts from each college attended
  • participate in COMPASS as explained under Academic Profiling
C. Transfer Student Probation:

A transfer student may be admitted on Academic Notice or Academic Probation if he or she fails to meet the following criteria:

Transfer students admitted on probation must maintain a 2.0 GPA each semester while on probation and raise their cumulative GPA to 2.0 to be removed from Academic Probation.

D. Transfer of Credit:

All transfer work is recorded on the student's permanent record.

3. Advanced Standing Credit

An individual who is currently enrolled and has satisfactorily completed a nationally recognized proficiency examination, has previous occupational experience or other relevant and documented experience, can request advanced standing credit through one of the following means:

Advanced Standing Credit: Proficiency tests are developed and administered by the department responsible for the course offering. Exam may be technical in scope or a nationally normed instrument such as COMPASS.

Military Experience: Advanced standing credit for military experience is based on criteria and recommendations contained in publications of the American Council on Education.

Advanced standing credit awarded to a student must be validated by successful completion of twelve or more semester hours of academic work at OSU-Okmulgee. All credit earned through advanced standing shall be so designated P on the transcript following the course entry. Credit can be earned for previous knowledge by achieving the required scores on any one or more of 34 CLEP exams in the disciplines of Business, Composition on Literature, Foreign Languages, History and Social Sciences, and Mathematics.

4. Re-admission

Students who have attended OSU-Okmulgee previously, but have not attended within the past two semesters must:

  • submit an Application for Admission
  • submit official transcripts of any college work attempted since the last date of attendance at OSU-Okmulgee
5. Special Admission

Students who wish to enroll in courses without intending to pursue a degree may be permitted to enroll in up to nine credit hours without submitting academic credentials. This can be done by phone, mail, or in person. Once a student has successfully completed nine credit hours, regular admission is required.

6. Adult Admission

Students who are over 21 years of age or on active military duty and have attended no other college may be allowed to waive a High School transcript or ACT scores based on personal assessment of educational preparation, special work experience or licensing, or educational documents.

7. Concurrent Enrollment of High School Juniors or Seniors

A high school junior or senior may be enrolled in collegiate level courses provided he or she meets the requirements set forth on the Concurrent Enrollment Form available from the high school counselor. All concurrent students must submit ACT scores.

8. Resident Classification

A resident of Oklahoma is one who has lived continuously in Oklahoma for at least 12 months duration and whose domicile is in Oklahoma. A person's domicile is his or her true, fixed, permanent home or habitation. It is the place where he or she intends to remain and to which he or she expects to return. When these two occur there is domicile. The burden of proof of residence status or domicile shall be upon the applicant. Students filing an appeal for re-classification of their residence status shall do so on forms provided in Admissions and Records.

Special Program Requirements

Certain programs have restricted admission and enrollment procedures. Admission to OSU-Okmulgee does not guarantee acceptance into any specific program of study. Additional requirements for admission to restricted programs may be obtained by contacting the respective division office.

Computer Proficiency Requirement

OSU-Okmulgee recognizes that many business, industrial, educational, and personal activities involve the use of computers. Therefore, all OSU-Okmulgee graduates will demonstrate competency in the use of a computer to perform one or more of the following functions:

  • Word Processing
  • Database Management
  • Programming
  • Spreadsheet Use
  • Multimedia/Graphic Design
  • Presentations

A student may satisfy the computer proficiency requirement by completing the course GTIT 1133 Computer Literacy and Applications or any other course designated by the academic division as satisfying this requirement. The following policy applies to all students interested in seeking Advanced Standing credit for GTIT 1133 Computer Literacy & Applications:

  • All examinations will take place in the OSU-Okmulgee Assessment Center and will cover the following areas: Windows, Basic Word, Basic Excel, Database (Access), and Power Point. Students may take one or more components per visit to the Assessment Center. However, all components of the exam must be completed within a two-week period.
  • Students will be allowed to take the exam (or each component) once. Note: students who have previously taken Computer Literacy & Applications will not be permitted to seek Advanced Standing in the course.

Residency Requirements for a Degree

Certain residency hours are required for a student to earn a degree from OSU-Okmulgee. At least 15 of the final 30 hours applied toward the degree, or at least 50 percent of the hours required by the institution in the major field, must be satisfactorily completed at OSU-Okmulgee.
