Loan Policy

Student identification cards are necessary to check out library materials. ID cards, which may be picked up at student services, must be validated for the current semester before materials can be checked out.

The current loan period for books, videotapes and periodicals is two weeks. Reference items and newspapers may not be checked out at any time. Faculty and staff may borrow books and videos until the end of the current trimester.

Overdue Fines

Overdue fines begin accumulating on the first business day following the due date. Overdue fines will accrue at the rate of $.05 per item, per business day, until the item is turned in -or after two overdue notices and one notice of a bursar's charge at which time the item will be determined Lost/Missing (see Lost/Missing Items). Overdue fines will not exceed the cost of the book. A $5.00 service charge for each item will be assessed to any charges that are sent to the Bursar's office. Any items not returned or fines not paid by the end of the semester will result in a hold* being placed on the student's record.

Damaged Items

Any patron who returns damaged item(s) will be assessed the cost** of the item(s). When damages are paid the patron is welcome to take the item(s). Any damages not paid for by the end of the semester will result in a hold* being placed on the student's record.

Lost & Missing Items

An item will be determined Lost/Missing if not returned within the period of two overdue notices and one Bursar's notice. The patron will be assessed the cost** of the item(s), fines accrued, and a $5.00 service charge. Any patron who loses an item will be responsible for the cost** of the item(s). Copies replaced by the LRC may not be an exact duplicate of the original item. Patrons wishing to replace an item may do so only with the approval of the Director or the Librarian. No refunds will be given. Any Lost/Missing items not paid for by the end of the semester will result in a hold* being placed on the student's record.

Students
  • Students must have a current ID to check out library materials. The circulation period for materials is two weeks.
  • The library reserves the right to limit the number of materials checked-out on a given subject depending on depth of collection and demand for the subject.
  • A patron is limited to a maximum of five (5) items at any one time.
  • Renewals are allowed; no renewals on HOLD materials.
  • Students are not permitted to checkout reference books. Reserve books may be checked out with permission of the librarian only. The date due of these materials will be determined by need.
  • Overdue fines are five cents per day counting only the days the library is open, excluding weekends.
  • All materials checked out close to the end of the semester will be due on the last Friday before graduation.
  • If students have overdue items, they will not be allowed to checkout any more materials until the overdues are returned.
  • When materials are two weeks overdue patrons are sent an overdue notice. Two weeks later a second overdue notice is sent, two weeks after the second notice the patron is turned over to the Bursar's Office.
  • When badly damaged items are returned they must be paid for as if lost because they can no longer be used. Patrons may keep the items.
  • Materials are not checked out over breaks.
Faculty/Staff
  • Faculty and staff may borrow books until the end of the current trimester.
  • If a book is needed longer than three months, the faculty member should consider buying a personal copy or purchasing a departmental copy.
  • Faculty and staff may check out reference books and current periodicals with permission of the librarian. Those periodicals designated "Professional" can be routed for a period of one week upon request. General periodicals will not be routed to faculty, as they are needed for student use.
Public
  • Public patrons must be a resident of Okmulgee County and have a telephone number that can be verified. Materials may be checked out for a period of two weeks. They may have a maximum of three items checked out, with one renewal on each item.
  • OSU-Okmulgee library privileges will be suspended if materials are not returned within two weeks of due date.
  • Students from other colleges and universities will be encouraged to use ILL at their college or university, but may check out materials as a public patron.

*Holds placed on student's records will prevent the student from enrolling in future semesters, receiving grades, transcripts and diplomas. Holds will remain in effect until all items have been returned and/or monies due have been paid. **Cost is the purchase price of the item, plus a $5.00 processing fee per item.
