A Bachelor of Technology Degree in Information Assurance & Forensics prepares graduates to meet the growing need for IT security and digital forensics professionals. Bachelor of Technology - Information Assurance and Forensics
As organizations increasingly use net-works and the Internet to improve their competitiveness, efficiency, and quality of service, and as information technology systems become more complex, organizational vulnerabilities will only multiply, as will the need for information-security personnel. The new Bachelor of Technology in Information Assurance and Forensics will prepare individuals to protect computers, computer systems and networks from threats such as hackers, viruses and worms and investigate illicit cyber activities. Forensics involves the identification, acquisition, preservation, examination and documentation of computer evidence to support the investigation of prohibited and criminal activities, such as cyber vandalism and cyber terrorism. Information Assurance ensures that an organization's critical information and the IT systems, products and processes that manage it are reliable and secure, and that appropriate safeguards are in place to counter malicious attacks. The bachelor program in Information Assurance and Forensics is a technology intensive, application focused baccalaureate degree offered through the OSU-Okmulgee Information Technologies Division. The division has a tradition for excellence in preparing individuals for exciting and successful careers using a hands-on, customer focused approach and works closely with industry leaders to incorporate the latest business practices, emerging technologies and professional certifications into the program. Several factors have contributed to the rapid growth in the information assurance and forensics work force sector. Such factors include Homeland Security initiatives, cyber threats, and government regulations. Recent industry reports show that companies are already having difficulty hiring information security professionals, with 43% reporting difficulties in finding candidates with "sufficient hands-on experience" a primary focus of OSU-Okmulgee's Information Technologies programs. The 2004 projected median annual salary for information security professionals is $67,000. Internship Provides On-the-Job Experience
The IT division views work experience as a critical component to an IT security professional's development, and has incorporated a semester long, full-time internship into the Information Assurance and Forensics Bachelor degree program. A majority of students accept employment offers by internship employers.
