A board-certified pedorthist has studied foot anatomy and pathology, biomechanics, shoe construction and modification, foot orthoses fabrication and materials, footwear fitting, patient/practice management, and abides by ABC's Code of Ethics outlining responsibilities to the patient, the physician, the public and the profession. For most C.Peds, hands-on training in the field is also part of their learning process.

A pedorthist specializes in relieving foot problems caused by disease, overuse or injury. This is accomplished through appropriate footwear, shoe modifications, or a variety of shoe inserts. A Certified Pedorthist (C.Ped) has obtained the necessary educational requirements of the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics (ABC) exam. There are continuing education requirements that C.Peds must meet to retain their credentials. Prospects for certification are advised to consult the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics (ABC) for certification requirements or visit www.abcop.org.

All Pre-Certification students must complete a special enrollment application form. Completion of this form indicates that the student certifies that they:

• have visual acuity sufficient to observe and assess patients;
• auditory acuity sufficient to hear instructions and requests;
• motor ability necessary to manipulate equipment and power tools;
• speak, write, and comprehend English;
• communicate in a professional manner;
• are able lift up to 50 pounds;
• have a high school diploma or GED.

As a prerequisite for course participation, all students must purchase and review, at least two weeks in advance of course participation, the OSU Institute of Technology Series 1, Foot Anatomy CD. Students are also encouraged to purchase two other CDs: Pedorthic Education Technologies, L.T.D., Co., Pedorthic Encyclopedia, and Pedorthic Education Technologies, L.T.D., Co., Pedorthic Pathology Reference.

Applicants are also encouraged to purchase the text(s): Introduction to Pedorthics, Contemporary Pedorthics, and Professional Shoe Fitting. These may be purchased at least three weeks in advance of course participation. Finally, students will want to complete a course in Medical Terminology and Human Anatomy. However, these are not prerequisites for program admission.

As a requirement for course completion participants must take part in assessment activities including the completion of and the earning of a passing score on all cognitive (paper/pencil) tests. Therefore, participants are hereby notified of their responsibility to spend double the amount of time out-of-class as is spent in class on independent study and reading activities. Course participation does not guarantee passing the class, nor does it guarantee passing the national exam sponsored by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics (ABC). All course participants must complete and pass in progression, each Level of competency-based education as specified by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics (ABC) and the Commission on Accreditation of Pedorthic Education (CAPE).

This course includes instruction in Shoe fitting, Shoe Construction & Modification, Basic Anatomy, Biomechanics, Pathology, Medical Terminology, Prefabricated Foot Orthoses & Retail Shoe Business & Management. Classes meet 8 am to 5 pm, M-F.

This course includes instruction in Biomechanics & Pathomechanics of the Foot, Pedorthic Evaluation. Foot Orthoses & Shoe Modification. Classes meet 8 am to 5 pm, M-F.

This course includes instruction in Anatomy, Physiology, Pathomechanics & Systemic Disease, Custom Molded Shoes, Subtalar Control Foot Orthoses, Patient Management Implementation and Practice Management. Classes meet 8 am to 5 pm, M-F.

Courses are professionally taught by a Board-Certified Pedorthist with many years of experience in clinical practice.

Refreshments may be served the first day of each new class during new student orientation.

1. Class size limited to a student/teacher ratio of 15/1.
2. Checks or money orders should be made payable to OSU Institute of Technology HETD/EEL Account.
3. OSU Institute of Technology reserves the right to cancel a course. In that event, all registrants will receive a 100% refund within 30 days.

A special rate for on-campus housing is available to participants. All efforts will be made to assign participants to a single room in the residence halls. Due to space limitations, however, this may not always be possible. Limited space in the residence halls will be assigned on a first come-first served basis. The residence halls and cafeteria are located less than a three minute walk from our classrooms. Please contact the Residential Life Office at 918-293-5280 for more information and to make reservations at least 14 days prior to the start of your classes.

If you need special accommodations in accordance with ADA regulations, please call our ADA Counselor at 918-293-4996, at least 15 days in advance of your arrival.

If you do not wish to utilize on-campus housing, you may want to contact the local Day's Inn at 918-756-0660 or Best Western Hotel at 918-756-9200 for room rates or reservations.

Upon your arrival, a shuttle pick-up service may be available to the OSU Institute of Technology campus, located 45 miles south of Tulsa International Airport. Should you need the shuttle service, it is scheduled twice on Sunday (1 pm and 6 pm). Should you choose the shuttle service, you are responsible for confirming a reservation with the Health & Environmental Technologies Division Office at 918-293-5330 the Thursday before your departure.

In the event you choose not to use the shuttle service, you are responsible for transportation/costs to Okmulgee.
