Pedorthics is the design, manufacture, modification and/or fit of shoes, orthoses and foot devices to alleviate or prevent foot problems caused by disease, congenital defect, or injury.

The practice of Pedorthics involves working with patients to achieve conformity with a doctor’s prescription for footwear as part of a treatment regimen.

Graduates of the Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthic Technology Program earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree and qualify for certification as dictated by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics (ABC). For information on certification, visit www.abcop.org.

Currently there are more than 1,800 certified pedorthists (C. Peds) practicing in the United States. Estimates indicate that the need for Pedorthic services far surpasses the number of available C. Peds. Services provided by C. Peds are in great demand throughout the United States and in a number of other countries.
