The Manufacturing Technology program prepares students for job opportunities in many different areas of the economy. Students experience a multi-disciplinary program that allows them to be a highly productive team member I the work place. Computers and high-tech equipment in environmentally controlled and well-lit facilities have replaced the gloomy rooms and greasy machines of the past. Currently there are over 20,000 job openings nation wide and growing as workers retire more quickly than new qualified workers are available.

Employment/Placement Demand

Even in today's slowing economy there is a shortage of qualified machining technicians and the need is expected to continue to grow as the aging workforce begins to retire. Placement has been near 100 % with typical starting salaries ranging from $28,000 - $40,000 per year. The company that sponsored their internship and have received job offers prior to final semester on campus hires many students. Frequently advisory board members hire graduates.

Facilities and Equipment

The manufacturing lab, in the Donald W. Reynolds Technology Center, has over $1.3 million worth of state of the art equipment and software where students learn in an authentic learning environment. State of the art inspection equipment and rapid prototype capabilities are accessible to the student as part of their learning experience. The faculty in the manufacturing area average 16 years of industry experience.

Additional Information

Students are expected to become more than just experts in CNC programming or machine operation. Educational experiences at OSU-Okmulgee prepare students to be effective team members, problem solvers and leaders. Students are exposed to the "big picture" and not just their area of the manufacturing process. Graduates are often promoted to management and leadership positions as a result of the preparation and experiences received while at OSU-Okmulgee.
