Engineering Technologies Internship Overview
Internship Philosophy

The Engineering Technologies Internship Program marks a unique partnership between OSU-Okmulgee and employers. The internship is an extension of the classroom allowing students to apply knowledge and skill in an industrial setting.

Benefits to Students

Although OSU-Okmulgee delivers outstanding applied classroom experiences, nothing can replace on-the -job training. The internship provides students not only an opportunity to practice technical skills, but also provides a pathway to improve employability skills. Many internships lead to full time employment. However, continued employment is not guaranteed.

Benefits to Employers

Internships allow employers to acquire new talent, fresh percpectives and current skills, evaluate the performance of prospective employees firsthand. Additionally, internships allow employers to play a direct role in the development of their industry's talent pool.

Benefits to OSU-Okmulgee & Engineering Technologies

Through the internship program, employers provide valuable feedback with which to improve the institution and the ET program.

Pre-Internship Requirements

Prior to participating in an internship, a student must have obtained division approval, and successfully completed Employment Exploration (ETD 2113) as well as a minimum number of credit hours in the ETD program. Typically, students undertake internships during the semester prior to their final semester.

Internship Coordinator

The ETD internship advisor works directly with employers, students seeking internships, and interns. Although it is ultimately the responsibility of students to secure internships, the coordinator assists students with their searches for appropriate internship placement, and maintains direct, ongoing contact with interns and their employers to monitor and assess each internship experience.

Internship Employer Requirements

Internship employers are required to provide interns with meaningful and relevant responsibilities, assign internship supervisors who monitor and evaluate intern performance, and ensure safe working environments.

Intern Requirements

Students are required to complete weekly assignments and document their time and activities throughout the internship experience. Further internship information is available in the ETD Internship Guide, wich is distributed by the Internship advisor during the Employment Exploration course.

Internship Credit

The number of internship credit hours a student undertakes will determine the clock hours she/he will be required to complete during the internship experience. In certain instances, individuals may receive internship credit for previous work experience and demonstration of competence, or be permitted to substitute coursework for internship credit. Please contact the ETD Internship Advisor for further information.
