The Engineering Graphics Technology program prepares students for job opportunities in many different areas of the economy. Our graduates experience a multi-disciplinary program that allows them to be a highly productive team member; often bridging the gap between the engineer and the layperson that has to implement the design. Students in the Mechanical Design option get the opportunity to see how the design process works from conceptual design to prototyping to actual production. Civil Technology students are exposed to real world design problems ranging from the collection of survey data to final design presentation. Architectural students are exposed to many facets of the creation of the required construction documents necessary to build commercial and residential structures.
Employment opportunities for Design-Drafters and CAD Technicians are in Mechanical/Manufacturing Design and Drafting, Civil Technology, and Architectural Drafting. Recent typical starting salaries are $25,000 - $35,000 per year. Many students are hired by the company that sponsored their internship and have received job offers prior to final semester on campus. Frequently advisory board members hire graduates.
Students use the latest industry leading software (AutoCAD©, ProENGINEER©, SolidWorks©, etc.) in computer labs housed in the Donald W. Reynolds Technology Center. During their program of study, students are exposed to the manufacturing process, construction, and surveying techniques to produce an authentic multidisciplinary learning environment.
Students are expected to become more than just experts in CAD software. Educational experiences at OSU-Okmulgee prepare students to be effective team members, problem solvers and leaders. Students are exposed to the "big picture" and not just their area of the design process. Graduates are often promoted to management and leadership positions as a result of the preparation and experiences received while at OSU-Okmulgee.
