Our program offers A-Z education with an emphasis on gourmet cuisine. Our graduates have knowledge of purchasing practices, serving etiquette, table setup, meat identification and fabrication, customer service, dining room management, and quantity food preparation as well as gourmet breads, desserts and entrées. Graduates have the opportunity to be ServSafe certified.
State-of-the-art equipment and facilities, proven up-to-date teaching methods, a low student-to-teacher ratio, plus a diverse and experienced faculty of professional chefs and instructors combine to give you the best education possible in the food service field. Our goal is to provide you with the finest Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree available in culinary arts.
Our dining facilities are beautiful lab environments essential to management, customer service, and dining operations learning experiences. The State Room buffet and Tech Room ala carte service are available Monday-Thursday, 11:00 am -12:00 noon, and evening ala carte service is offered in the Tech Room from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm.
The internship program, during which students practice what they have learned in the lab and classroom, are in some of the area's leading restaurants. These paid experiences often lead to permanent employment. Restaurants, country clubs, resorts, hospitals, hotels and schools actively recruit graduates of the OSU-Okmulgee Culinary Arts program.
The employment outlook for culinary graduates is excellent nationally and in Oklahoma. The National Restaurant Association projects 14.8% job growth between now and the year 2016.
According to the National Restaurant Association online, there are 925,000 locations serving more than 70 billion meal and snack occasions, employing 12.5 million; "the industry is the largest employer other than the government."
