Established in 1984, the College Automotive Program (CAP) is a nationwide effort to train and employ the industry's best automotive technicians and to assure Chrysler Corporation customers receive the best service available. The CAP program seeks the top high school student candidates in the country by offering a number of benefits and incentives. What follows are just some of the major benefits available to students who choose CAP.

OSU-Okmulgee has been carefully screened and selected by Chrysler based on a number of factors. To be considered as a CAP college, the school must have a reputation for excellence in automotive training and a record of academic quality. Most important, each CAP college must prove that its automotive program is among the best by being certified through the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence/National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (ASE/NATEF). Every CAP instructor is a Chrysler-trained, experienced professional. This training allows the instructors to confer valuable certification credentials to the students when they successfully complete the program. Chrysler provides the latest vehicles, components, and instructional materials. It also provides high-tech tools, including diagnostic equipment, for hands on training.

CAP is more than a hands-on training program at the college level -- it also includes an internship that provides valuable field experience. Along with classroom instruction, CAP offers on-site training at sponsoring dealerships under the direction of master technicians. Students rotate class time and internship until fulfilling the requirements of an Associate in Applied Science degree in Automotive Service Technology. In addition to familiarizing students with repair procedures for Chrysler products, CAP also acquaints them with dealership service operations.

Students and their sponsor(s) can choose from a number of agreement options. The CAP Agreement is a two-year plan. The CAP Contract is a four-year plan (two-year internship and two-year employment commitment.) These and other great options mean students are able to choose a dealership work arrangement that best suits individual needs.

CAP participation is open to any Chrysler dealer or qualifying student in the United States.

Class size is limited to maintain a good instructor-to-student ratio to ensure a quality education. Candidates with the highest qualifications who apply early are chosen first.
