Arts & Sciences

Each program of study at OSU-Okmulgee requires Arts and Sciences courses. They cover communications, math, science, social science and foreign language fields. If you are undecided about your program of study, you can take your General Studies courses first and select a major later. The institution offers day, evening and weekend courses to give students a variety of class times to fit their needs.

Arts & Sciences More than technical knowledge is required to succeed in business and industry! Securing and advancing in a position also requires communication skills, an understanding of social and political values, and an awareness of the importance of such personal attributes as dependability, integrity, a strong work ethic, and working in harmony with others.

Small Classes

The General Studies unit has earned a reputation as a caring group of experienced educators who are available several hours each week to assist students outside the classroom. This opportunity for individual attention, combined with small class sizes, makes taking general studies courses at OSU-Okmulgee a very positive experience.

Special Summer Interim Session

A special eight-week summer session during June and July is available for graduating high school seniors, students home from other colleges, and other students for whom the regular day or night classes are inconvenient. Students may earn three to nine college credit hours during the eight-week session (a maximum of 10 credit hours may be taken with approval of the General Studies Division Chair). The classes meet in a variety of times and formats to give students flexibility in arranging summer schedules.

Evening Classes
As part of its emphasis on being student-centered, the General Education Department also makes many of its courses available at night each semester. A minimum number of students is required for these courses to be offered. To avoid cancellations of specific night classes during a particular semester, students are strongly advised to enroll as early as possible during the enrollment period and perhaps enlist other enrollees to ensure the course is offered.

Assessment Testing

Assessment testing may be necessary. Most first-time students will take tests to determine achievement levels in reading, writing, and mathematics. The results help you and your advisors select appropriate classes. If you have fewer than nine credit hours from OSU-Okmulgee, you may be eligible for a special student status which minimizes paperwork.

Career Profiling

Making the right career choice can be difficult. OSU-Okmulgee's Assessment Center has the tools to assist you in making the right career choice. The Career Profile will assess your abilities, interests, and personality type to link you with appropriate career options.

Before You Enroll

High school juniors are eligible for concurrent enrollment during the summer between their junior and senior years. Concurrent enrollment forms are available at your high school and must be signed by your counselor or principal. Concurrent students may not enroll in zero-level courses designed to remove high school deficiencies. High school and college students will need to submit high school and/or college transcripts before enrolling. Details are available from the OSU-Okmulgee Admissions Office.
